On (self-)publishing practices

№4 Lin Junye

In this episode of Soft Cover Hard Copy, we met Lin Junye at the nos:bookspace in Taipei and had the chance to speak with her. She is an editor, writer, and curator based in Taipei, Taiwan, focusing on photography and photographic publishing.
Junye founded, along with Liu Chao-tze, Fotobook DUMMIES Day in 2018, an artist-led initiative focused on photobooks and self-publishing.

Initially launched as a photobook fair to bring together artists exploring image-making and self-publishing, Fotobook DUMMIES Day has since expanded, using these mediums as a curatorial foundation for exhibitions, events, and artist talks. In 2019, they broadened their focus to include a comprehensive research project across Southeast Asia. This ongoing project led to the book Tropical Reading: Photobook and Self-Publishing co-published with pon ding in May 2022. The second edition was published with Limestone Books in Maastricht.
